Kaolin Clay—Earth-Given, Skin-Loving, Time-Tested
At SMR, we believe in using ingredients that come straight from the earth—clean, honest, and purposeful. That’s why we include Kaolin Clay in our handcrafted soap bars. Sourced from natural deposits deep in the earth, this fine, mineral-rich clay has been used for centuries to cleanse, soothe, and restore the skin.
Kaolin Clay gets its name from the Kaoling Hill region of China, where it was first discovered and used in traditional skincare and pottery. Today, it’s mined from natural clay beds around the world—including the U.S.—and remains one of the gentlest clays available, making it ideal for all skin types.
Why We Use Kaolin Clay
This soft, white clay brings a gentle touch to every bar we make. It’s especially loved for its ability to cleanse without stripping, soothe without irritating, and balance without over-drying.
Draws Out Impurities: Gently cleanses by absorbing excess oil and removing buildup from the surface of the skin.
Soothes Sensitive Skin: Naturally calming and non-abrasive—ideal for dry, delicate, or easily irritated skin.
Adds a Silky Feel: Gives our soap bars a smooth, creamy lather and a soft texture your skin will love.
Naturally Mineral-Rich: Packed with beneficial earth minerals that support healthy, balanced skin.
We chose Kaolin Clay because it does what we value most—it cares for the skin in a way that’s simple, natural, and honest.
At SMR, whether we’re tending to the herd or hand-pouring a batch of soap, we’re guided by a deep respect for what’s real. We believe in using ingredients that are time-tested, family-safe, and connected to the land—because that’s what we’d want for our own home, and that’s what we offer to yours.
